San Juan (SJU) is the capital city of Puerto Rico and your arrival point when coming from the continental US. There are multiple major airlines that fly to San Juan, including Delta, Alaska Air, Southwest, United and American Airlines. Many major US cities offer direct flights to San Juan, including Chicago, New York, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Newark, Detroit, Miami, Charlotte, Orlando, Minneapolis and Boston.
Once you land in San Juan you will catch a puddle jumper via Capeair to Mayaguez where our team of guides will be waiting to assist with bags and take you back to the lodge. If you or a member of your group has an aversion to small planes… no problem, we are happy to arrange ground transportation via sprinter van from San Juan to Boqueron which takes around 2 and 1/2 hours and depending on number of travels is comparable in price.
Transfers to and from Mayaguez airport are included in your fishing package. Additional inland transportation such as inland transportation from San Juan to Boqueron will be billed seperately.
Breakfast & Lunch
Buffet style breakfast or a hot breakfast sandwich/pastry will be ready for you in the morning alongside a cup of freshly brewed coffee.
Lunch is served skiff-side each day and consists of a bakery made sandwich of your choosing from our favorite local establishment.
No Name Lodge does not guarantee lodge dinners, but any and all dinners cooked at the house are free of charge. An important part of the program consists of exploring local cuisine. Guides will be taking you out to their favorite spots!
Use of Lodge Equipment
Guests can utilize all lodge reels, rods, lines, fly tying materials and flies free of charge. All we ask is that if you plan to tie at the lodge please follow the "take material, leave material" mentality.
Guided Fly Fishing
Each day of fishing is completely guided with two anglers per boat/guide. Let No Names staff handle the hard stuff, you just need to cast the rod!
All boat/lodge beers and liquor are free of charge. Speciality/requested liquor is not provided, but can be purchased any day on the way home from fishing. Just ask your guide.
Round trip flights to and from San Juan/Mayaguez are not included in your fishing package. All flights must be arranged by guests.
If guests must stay a night in San Juan due to travel restrictions all meals and hotel fees will need to be planned and paid for ahead of time by the guest.
Speciality alcohol including but not limited to specific beers/liquors are not included. Guests are welcome to bring speciality alcohol or buy it in country. All guides will offer to swing by the liquor store each day.
Your guides work for tips! Please be sure to treat No Name Lodge staff after your week of fishing. We recommend $100/day per person.
Dinners in Town
Boquerón features numerous local restaurants that feature premium local cuisine. Your guide may opt to take you out to dinner. All No Name Staff will pay for their own meal, guests will need to pick up their drinks and food.
Permit - 8-10WT
Tarpon - 9-12 WT (definitely bring something bigger than 9WT to tackle the 100+ pound fish, the most comfortable would be a 12wt.)
Leader: We like to fish tippit of 60-80LB for the largest fish. For Permit 15-20lb.
For line type we recommend floating and intermediary. If you have both, great, if not we will have a few rods spun up with both that we will provide. In terms of fly's - start gathering some natural and black/purple baitfish and toads (1/0-4/0). For the permit we recommend a mix of flats crabs (olive), strong arms (olive) and urchins. We will also have a comprehensive selection of flies at the lodge if anyone finds their patterns insufficient. Our guides will also each have a box on the boat! Please do not go overboard on tying permit flies as they can be very selective. Guides will have 1 or two patterns that they know are working well at the moment.
Clothing/Shoes: Please bring a good waterproof jacket, long sleeve fishing shirts, protective pants (or shorts) and A SOLID PAIR OF WADING BOOTS. Many of our permit flats are very rocks/reefy, but provide great opportunities to attack permits on foot. We will encourage guests to wade on a number of our permit flats and protective wading boots are a must to complete this safely.
